I have the honor to report that I have been in communication with the Governor of Macao on the subject of carrying out the provisions of the recent ordinance for Registration of Chinese vessels frequenting the Harbour.
2.
I have further dealt with the importance of this united action in my despatch 138 of the 15th Instant, and I now have the honor to transmit for your Lordship's information copies of the correspondence which has taken place on the subject between Myself and Governor Amaral at Macao, as also with the Vice-Roy of Reangling.
Subsequently to writing to Governor Amaral I proceeded to Macao and had a long personal conference with him on the subject. And expecting his successor to follow up the matter, I do not think I could have reasonably hoped for a more favorable reply than that which I enclose (Enclosure 2).
I have very great pleasure in recording the active Cooperation which I have always experienced at the hands of Governor Amaral in the numerous cases which, owing to our immediate neighbourhood, gave a special value to his friendly assistance.
4.
Having subsequently had the pleasure of receiving his Successor at Government House, I have been assured by him that he will exert himself to assist in carrying out the objects of the recent legislation here.
